Located within the Danba Valley are hundreds of stone towers 30 – 70 meters (200 feet) tall. Some of these towers are estimated to date between 200 – 1600 AD. Towers are four cornered and others star shaped. The Danba Valley is located within the historic Gyelrong (Queendom) region of Kham. Gyelrong is a center of the Bön religion and the people of Gyelrong, or Gyelrongwas, are distinct from Tibetans.
